Welcome to the 2009 Grand Canyon Hike Website

Welcome to the 5th Annual Rim to Rim Hike! We hope that everyone has a safe experience and enjoys the adventure along the way – it is truly a rewarding experience!
In 2009, we will all hike from the North Rim to the South Rim this year! Past participants will tell you that South to North route is significantly harder. Please understand that due to the number of hikers this year logistically we have created a whole new set of challenges, we can accommodate up to 22 hikers this year. The North Rim has limited resources so transportation and lodging is hard to come by. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you read the information on "ABOUT THE HIKE" info and respond in a timely manner. It took a great deal of time to figure out the logistics and we need to make sure you are committed to the hike.
Things to know for this years hike:
- Like last year, Beth has gone a head and made reservations for all of us for the shuttle, lodging at the north rim and the shuttle to the trail head on the morning of the hike. We do need volunteers to drive to and from the canyon.
- There will be a group happy hour (meet & greet) on Tuesday, Feb,17th, 2009 at Rock Bottom Desert Ridge at 6pm.
- Three Training hikes scheduled for each week, you are responsable to complete a minimum of 10 group hikes. Dwight, Chris and Beth have and are giving up a lot of time for these training hikes, and ask that you call us to let us know if you are coming or if you are not coming once RSVP for the training hike.
- Training hikes are a must this year, as we are evaluating each hiker for a so-called Buddy System. The buddy system will be in place during the hike for the last few miles, as everyone will be moving at their own pace. We do not want anyone doing this part of the hike by themselves, so we are going to pair each person with a "BUDDY".
- Last year everyone met on the lookout after the hike, this year we will follow Dwights & Keiths way of doing things, and will finish the hike in the Bright Angel Bar and Grill.
